The Broadcasting Deal

The BBC and ITV have shared FIFA World Cup broadcast rights in the UK since 1966. For 2026, the arrangement continues under a deal reportedly worth £220 million for the cycle covering 2026 and 2030. The split gives both broadcasters roughly equal access:

  • BBC: 33 matches including the opening match, one semi-final, and a share of the final
  • ITV: 31 matches including one semi-final and a share of the final
  • Shared: Both broadcasters air the final simultaneously, a tradition since 2006

All England group-stage matches will be split between the two: the opener against Croatia (Group L, June 14) is on ITV1, the second match against Panama on BBC One, and the third against Ghana on ITV1.
